OSOGBO – In a proactive move to fortify the security architecture of Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed his security team to prioritize the acquisition of state-of-the-art surveillance drones.

This directive follows the conclusion of a four-day marathon security summit chaired by the Governor, aimed at reassessing the state's tactical capabilities and addressing significant lapses in equipment inventory.

Addressing Past Administrative Lapses The decision comes amid revelations concerning the status of security infrastructure inherited by the current administration. Government records disclosed that five security drones, purportedly fully paid for under the previous Oyetola administration, were unaccounted for by the time Governor Adeleke assumed office in 2022.

Furthermore, internal reviews identified a failed contract valued at approximately N300 million, which was intended to integrate the state’s security communication center with existing Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs). The project was left unexecuted, and the APCs were subsequently found abandoned across the state. Governor Adeleke’s administration has since taken steps to recover and refurbish these assets for active deployment.

Commitment to Public Safety Addressing the findings during the security meetings, Governor Adeleke emphasized a forward-looking approach.

“We are not interested in what has happened in the past,” the Governor stated. “Our goal is to acquire new drones and other essential equipment for our formal and informal security networks to effectively combat crimes and banditry in this state.”

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to the safety of Osun citizens and appealed for public cooperation. He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or individuals to security agencies to facilitate a safer environment.
