The Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, High Chief Dr. Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, has dismissed allegations that he received a Toyota Hilux vehicle from Dr. Deji Adeleke, the elder brother of Governor Ademola Adeleke, describing the claim as false, baseless and politically motivated.
Omoyele made the clarification in a statement issued on Friday by the Public Relations Officer of the Corps, CSA Yusuf Idowu Abass, in response to allegations made by the Forum of APC Former Legislators.
According to the Amotekun commander, the allegation is a deliberate attempt to distract the Corps from its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property across Osun State.
He maintained that since its establishment, the Osun Amotekun Corps has remained apolitical, professional and impartial, carrying out its security mandate without fear, favour or political affiliation.
Addressing the controversy surrounding the allocation of operational vehicles, Omoyele noted that despite the recent distribution of patrol vehicles by APC local government chairmen to several security agencies in the state, the Osun Amotekun Corps was excluded from the exercise.
He questioned why the Corps, which he said operates closest to grassroots communities and was established during the administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC), continues to be drawn into partisan disputes.
"The Osun Amotekun Corps belongs to the people of Osun State, not to any political party. Our loyalty is to the law and to the safety and security of every resident," he said.
The Corps Commander also cited a Yoruba proverb to underscore his position: "Tí a ò bá lè fún afα»Μjú ní α»Μpá titun, kò yαΊΉ kí a gba èyí tó wà lα»Μwα»Μ rαΊΉΜ," meaning, "If you cannot give a blind man a new walking stick, you should not take away the one already in his hand."
He argued that there is nothing inappropriate about providing the Corps Commander with an official vehicle to effectively supervise security operations across the state, questioning whether critics expected him to discharge his responsibilities without adequate mobility.
Omoyele further appealed to political actors to refrain from dragging security institutions into partisan politics, warning that such actions could erode public confidence in agencies established to serve and protect all citizens regardless of political affiliation.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Osun Amotekun Corps to maintaining peace, protecting lives and property, and supporting all lawful efforts aimed at strengthening security across Osun State.
