The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), in partnership with Rite Foods Limited, has announced plans to honour seven exceptional Nigerian undergraduates with ₦5 million each at the maiden Academic Excellence Recognition Award Ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, June 30, 2026, in Lagos.

According to a statement issued by JAMB on Sunday, the initiative is designed to celebrate academic excellence, reward merit, and inspire young Nigerians to strive for outstanding educational achievements.

The Board explained that each recipient emerged through a transparent, rigorous, and merit-based selection process after demonstrating exceptional performance in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and the respective Post-UTME or institutional screening exercises conducted by their admitting universities.

JAMB disclosed that six of the awardees represent the country's six geopolitical zones, while the seventh award recognises the highest-performing admitted candidate living with a disability.

The institutions producing the award recipients are:

University of Lagos (South-West Zonal Winner)

University of Uyo (South-South Zonal Winner)

Federal University of Technology, Owerri (South-East Zonal Winner)

Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia (North-West Zonal Winner)

University of Maiduguri (North-East Zonal Winner)

Federal University of Technology, Minna (North-Central Zonal Winner)

The Board also noted that the recipient of the award for candidates living with disabilities is from the University of Lagos, making the institution the only university with two award recipients in the maiden edition.

JAMB stated that the ceremony is expected to attract more than 300 distinguished guests, including the Minister of Education, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, vice-chancellors of the award-winning universities and other universities in Lagos State, chief executives of key regulatory agencies, education stakeholders, development partners, corporate leaders, students, and members of the media.

The examination body described the initiative as a reflection of its shared commitment with Rite Foods Limited to promoting academic excellence, recognising merit, and encouraging students to pursue excellence in higher education.

The statement was signed by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, Public Communication Advisor (PCA) to JAMB.
