Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), have neutralized two suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a successful counter-terrorism operation in the Sabarumawa axis of Kebbi State.

The military disclosed that the operation, carried out on Friday, June 27, 2026, was based on credible intelligence indicating that members of the terrorist group were planning an attack on the Sabarumawa community.

According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 swiftly mobilized to the area and laid a tactical ambush along the terrorists' suspected route to prevent the planned assault.

The statement said the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle as they approached the ambush position. The soldiers reportedly overpowered the criminals with superior firepower, killing two of them, while other members of the group fled into the surrounding forest with varying degrees of injuries.

Following the encounter, troops conducted a thorough exploitation of the area and recovered several weapons and operational items, including AK-47 rifles, AK-47 magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition, and one motorcycle believed to have been used by the terrorists.

The military described the operation as another significant success in its ongoing campaign against terrorism and banditry across the North-West region.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist and criminal elements while ensuring the protection of lives and property in affected communities.

The military also appealed to members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence to aid ongoing counter-terrorism operations across the region.
