A group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, under the aegis of Oriade Advocates of Good Governance, has raised concerns over an alleged plan by some party stakeholders to replace the winner of the Oriade State Constituency House of Assembly primary election, Engr. Olufemi Akosile, with another aspirant. In a statement signed by its Secretary, Fayemi Oladimeji, the group alleged that certain party "cabals" were making efforts to substitute Akosile's name despite his emergence as the winner of the direct primary election conducted in the constituency. According to the group, the primary election was conducted under the supervision of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police, with results collated across all wards and reportedly transmitted to the appropriate authorities. The group maintained that documents signed by party leaders and stakeholders across the wards authenticated Akosile's victory and described any attempt to alter the outcome as a violation of party democracy and the wishes of APC members in the constituency. The statement specifically alleged that there were moves to substitute Akosile with Professor Andrew Ifemidayo, a former aspirant who also participated in the primary election. It noted that both Akosile and Ifemidayo had earlier stepped down from pursuing higher political offices in line with the party's directive to support the aspirations of Hon. Wole Oke, who recently joined the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The group expressed disappointment over what it described as attempts to deny Akosile the mandate he allegedly secured through the primary process, warning that such actions could create divisions within the party ahead of the general elections. "We call on the leadership of the APC in Osun State and Oriade Local Government to ensure that the authentic results of the primary election are respected and that the rightful winner is recognised," the statement read. The group further warned that any controversy arising from the handling of primary election results could trigger legal disputes similar to ongoing litigations involving APC primary elections in other constituencies within the state. It urged party leaders to act swiftly to preserve unity within the APC and avoid actions that could undermine the confidence of grassroots members and supporters. As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State chapter of the APC had not officially responded to the allegations.
