OSOGBO, OSUN STATE — The Osun State Police Command has confirmed that a man suspected of banditry is currently undergoing investigation following his arrest by residents in the state capital.
The incident occurred on Wednesday in the Okefia area of Osogbo, situated near the Government House along the Ilobu Road axis. Viral footage circulating on social media shows the suspect sporting an unusual combination of attire, notably Nigerian Army camouflage trousers and an Amotekun uniform worn underneath his outer vest.
Police Response
Police officers arrived promptly at the scene to take the suspect into custody, preventing any potential mob action, and transported him to the Area Command.
Abiodun Ojelabi, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Osun State Command, confirmed the development. He stated that the case has been escalated to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Police Headquarters in Osogbo to ensure a thorough and professional inquiry.
Mental Evaluation Underway
According to Ojelabi, investigators have noted the suspect's erratic and "unusual behaviour." As part of the standard protocol, the police have commenced a discreet assessment to determine the suspect's mental and physical health status.
"We are investigating the circumstances surrounding his appearance and his presence in the area," Ojelabi noted, adding that the command remains committed to ensuring the safety of Osun residents.
