The Osun State Police Command has dismissed claims that the transfer of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Dada Estate Division was connected to his handling of a recent security incident in Okinni, describing the allegation as false, misleading, and capable of creating unnecessary tension.

In a press statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Command clarified that the officer's redeployment was part of a routine administrative reshuffle involving about 20 Divisional Police Officers across the state.

The clarification followed a statement reportedly made by the Chairman of the Osun State chapter of the Accord Party, Pastor Victor Akande, who alleged that the DPO was transferred because of his response to the Okinni incident and his concern for the victims.

Refuting the claim, the Command stated that the transfers were carried out as part of a strategic operational review aimed at improving policing efficiency, introducing fresh operational strategies, and strengthening the state's security architecture.

According to the statement, members of the public should disregard attempts to associate the transfer of any police officer with ongoing investigations or political considerations.

The Police Command also expressed concern over what it described as the growing politicisation of security-related matters in the state.

It warned political party chairmen, spokespersons, campaign directors-general, and other political stakeholders against making reckless, unfounded, and inflammatory statements capable of undermining public confidence in security agencies or interfering with ongoing investigations.

The Command stressed that attempts to distort facts for political gain are irresponsible, detrimental to public peace, and would not be tolerated.

It further warned that anyone found spreading false information or engaging in acts capable of inciting public disorder would be held accountable in accordance with the law.

Meanwhile, the Police disclosed that the Okinni incident remains under active investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, has directed a swift, thorough, professional, and impartial investigation into the matter to establish the facts and ensure that justice is served.

Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the Command assured residents that all policing operations would continue to be conducted without fear, favour, bias, or political influence.

The Police also urged residents of Osun State to remain law-abiding and allow investigators to carry out their lawful duties without undue interference or politicisation.
