IBADAN, NIGERIA — Panic and grief have gripped the Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State following the coordinated abduction of 46 people, predominantly young children and educators, by heavily armed terrorists on Friday.

According to local community leaders, the attackers stormed the region, targeting two academic institutions—Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School—alongside several neighboring villages.

Among the victims is Christianah Akanbi, a two-year-old toddler attending Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School. Community leaders confirmed that a total of seven teachers and 39 students were marched into the forests. The bandits also snatched four motorcycles from villagers to facilitate their escape.

Security agencies have reportedly swung into action. A senior police source revealed that investigators are currently tracing the suspects’ movements using phone call logs and signals exchanged with the bandits.
