The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the list of candidates for the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections scheduled for the February 2027 General Election.

The Commission announced that the deadline for uploading the candidates’ lists on its dedicated portal, which was initially set for Saturday, August 8, 2026, has been extended to Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

INEC said the extension followed appeals from political parties seeking additional time to complete the submission process.

The Commission clarified that the extension relates to the February 2027 General Election and is separate from the ongoing preparations for the August 15, 2026 Osun State Governorship Election.

Meanwhile, INEC said voters in Osun State who applied for replacement of lost, damaged or defaced Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) have until midnight on Sunday, August 9, 2026, to print their downloadable replacement cards.

The Commission explained that the deadline would enable it to compile the data of downloaded PVCs and determine the final statistics ahead of the August 15 Osun governorship election.

INEC also disclosed that replacement downloadable PVCs had been made available to affected voters in Odo-Otin and Ife Central Local Government Areas, following the theft of cards during invasions of two collection centres.

The electoral body assured voters that the stolen PVCs cannot be used to vote, while reaffirming its readiness to conduct a free, fair, credible and inclusive governorship election in Osun State on August 15, 2026.
