The Executive Chairman of Ife North Local Government Area, Hon. Akande Michael, has appealed to residents of the council area to remain calm and law-abiding amid tensions generated by a purported statement circulating within the community.

In a statement issued on Monday, Akande commended the people of Ife North for their maturity, patience, and commitment to peace despite recent political developments, describing their conduct as a demonstration of unity and understanding.

He reaffirmed that he remains the duly elected Executive Chairman of the local government, having emerged through the mandate freely given by the people.

The chairman also referenced a recent Federal High Court judgment, which he said affirmed that local government chairmen elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are the duly elected council chairmen in Osun State.

According to him, the administration of Ife North Local Government will continue to operate within the framework of the rule of law and constitutional provisions.

Akande urged residents to avoid actions capable of disrupting public peace or threatening lives and property, assuring them that normal administrative activities would soon resume at the local government secretariat in accordance with the court judgment and due legal process.

He further pledged the continued delivery of government services, including road maintenance, healthcare support, educational initiatives, and youth and women empowerment programmes under the administration's development agenda.

“Ife North is one family. Peace shall prevail, and progress shall continue,” the chairman stated.

Copies of the statement were also addressed to security agencies, including the Osun State Police Command, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), as well as traditional rulers across Ife North Local Government Area.
