The race for the APC House of Representatives ticket in the Iwo/Ayedire/Ola-Oluwa Federal Constituency is fast becoming one of the most controversial political stories in recent Iwo history, as fresh allegations of bribery and compromise continue to emerge from within the party’s own ranks.
According to sources close to the development, the crisis took a new dimension this week when one of the party’s leaders allegedly went public on the APC Iwoland platform to announce that an aspirant, Ademola Adedapo, had transferred the sum of N3 million into his account, even posting what was described as a payment receipt as evidence.
On the surface, the leader’s action appeared to be a courageous exposure of attempted bribery. However, sources with knowledge of the situation are telling a different story.
According to our findings, the same leader who made the public announcement was allegedly already a beneficiary of financial inducements from Adedapo long before the transfer in question. It is further alleged that following the collapse of last week’s disputed assessment exercise, an agreement was reportedly reached between the leader and Adedapo on a specific sum of money in exchange for the leader’s support.
The alleged public outcry, sources claim, was triggered not by principle but by the fact that the amount transferred fell short of what had been agreed upon and was also reportedly less than what the leader had allegedly already received from another aspirant.
This latest allegation comes on the heels of last week’s controversy in which sources alleged that another aspirant, said to have recently joined the party, allegedly distributed N50 million to induce leaders, aiming to turn what was supposed to be an assessment exercise process into a kangaroo system, that sources say was ultimately invalidated.
Concerned stakeholders, in a statement made available to Iwo, Osun State, are calling on respected party figures including Asiwaju Barrister Gbadegesin Adedeji, Senator Sunday Fajimi, Chief Abiola Ogundokun, and Professor Ladipo to urgently intervene and restore order before what they described as a money-driven free-for-all permanently damages the integrity of the APC in Iwoland.
“The way leaders within the APC are pursuing money rather than promoting loyalty, integrity, and commitment to the party is alarming,” the sources stated. The individuals mentioned have not publicly responded to the specific allegations at the time of this publication.
Iwo, Osun State will continue to follow this story as it develops.
