The Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has approved a monthly allowance of ₦30,000 for every National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in the state, in a move aimed at improving corps members’ welfare.
The announcement was made during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Afikpo, Ebonyi State.
The governor, who was represented at the ceremony by the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Chidiebere Onyia, assured the newly deployed corps members of the state government’s commitment to their welfare, security and personal development.
Onyia described Ebonyi as a peaceful and welcoming state, urging the corps members to use their service year to develop their skills, embrace cultural diversity and contribute meaningfully to their host communities.
He also encouraged them to uphold discipline, integrity, hard work and respect for constituted authorities throughout their service year.
Meanwhile, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Malgwi Maidariya, commended the Ebonyi Government for its support for youth development but appealed for further improvements to facilities at the permanent orientation camp.
She called for the construction of a standard dining facility, modernisation of the camp kitchen and establishment of a fully equipped Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) centre.
She also requested the renovation of the camp’s perimeter fence and upgrades to facilities within the multipurpose hall.
The swearing-in ceremony featured the taking of the oath of allegiance by the corps members, a Man ‘O’ War tactical display and an inspection of infrastructure projects within the orientation camp.
The newly deployed corps members are expected to proceed to their various places of primary assignment after completing the orientation programme.
