The Commandant of the Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, has ordered a full-scale investigation into allegations of misconduct involving some military personnel following claims by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, over the alleged assault of a female student.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Army Public Relations Officer, Major Yahaya Ibrahim, the military formation said it had taken note of the concerns raised by NANS and reaffirmed its commitment to upholding professionalism, discipline and justice.

According to the statement, the Nigerian Army exists to protect all citizens, particularly young people, and any conduct that undermines that responsibility is unacceptable.

> "No student or law-abiding citizen should ever feel unsafe or be subjected to harassment, intimidation or assault by those entrusted with the security of lives and property," the statement read.

The Commandant said an investigation has been ordered to establish the facts surrounding the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice in line with military regulations.

To facilitate the investigation, the Army appealed to the Southwest Coordinator of NANS, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, to provide all available evidence and witness statements relating to the alleged incident.

The statement stressed that the alleged actions of the personnel involved do not reflect the values, training and character expected of recruits at the Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo.

The military authority assured the public that any officer or soldier found guilty would face the full weight of military law.

The Depot also expressed its readiness to engage with the leadership of NANS to resolve the matter, with the Commandant indicating his willingness to meet with the student body at the earliest opportunity to chart a way forward.

The statement was signed by Major Yahaya Ibrahim, Army Public Relations Officer, Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, and dated June 30, 2026.

The development comes amid growing public concern over allegations by NANS that some soldiers attached to the Depot assaulted a female student of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), prompting calls for accountability and justice.
