Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 38-year-old businesswoman, identified as Iwebema Ogechi Peace, for allegedly attempting to traffic cocaine through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos.

The suspect was apprehended during a routine screening by NDLEA officers at the airport after intelligence-led surveillance reportedly exposed her attempt to smuggle the illicit substance while preparing to board an international flight.

In a separate operation, the anti-narcotics agency also intercepted a massive consignment of cannabis with an estimated street value of N12.4 billion, marking one of the agency's largest drug seizures in recent times.

According to the NDLEA, the operations underscore its sustained efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and prevent Nigeria from being used as a transit point for illicit drugs.

The agency said investigations are ongoing to uncover other members of the trafficking syndicates linked to both the cocaine arrest and the cannabis seizure, while assuring Nigerians of its commitment to intensifying the fight against drug trafficking and related crimes.

The NDLEA reiterated its resolve to bring drug traffickers to justice and urged members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement agencies with credible intelligence to combat the menace of illicit drugs across the country.
