The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and arraigned a suspect, identified as Emeka Joseph, in connection with an alleged case of assault occasioning harm and domestic violence following the circulation of a viral video that sparked public concern.
According to the Police Command, preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, Ezeka Chisom, was allegedly assaulted by the suspect, with whom she had been cohabiting. The victim reportedly sustained injuries to her face during the incident.
The police disclosed that the suspect has since been charged before a court of competent jurisdiction and remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending further proceedings. The matter has been adjourned until August 3, 2026.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the Command's commitment to combating all forms of domestic violence and abuse.
He emphasized that the Command maintains a zero-tolerance stance on domestic violence and assured residents that reports involving violence and abuse would continue to receive prompt and professional attention.
The Police Commissioner also urged members of the public to report cases of domestic violence and other criminal activities to the nearest police station or security formation to enable swift intervention and justice.
The incident has renewed conversations about domestic violence and the need for victims to seek timely support and legal protection while encouraging the public to remain vigilant and report suspected cases of abuse.
