Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has moved to quell rising political violence in the state capital, directing the Commissioner of Police to immediately arrest documented thugs associated with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a stinging statement released on Monday, May 11, 2026, via his spokesperson Olawale Rasheed, the Governor accused the state command of "apparent shielding" of known criminals. He specifically identified Asiri Eniba and his gang as the masterminds behind a series of sporadic shootings and the destruction of public property across Osogbo.

"Terror on Wheels"

According to the state government, these gangs have been operating with impunity, utilizing:

  • Sienna buses and Hilux jeeps for mobility.

  • Sporadic gunfire to intimidate residents.

  • Targeted vandalism of Accord Party campaign materials and public assets.

“Security agencies should prevent a scenario in which untamed thugs will set the state secretariat and other government buildings on fire. The police authorities must not wait for the public to resort to self-help before taking potent action.” — Governor Ademola Adeleke.

THE "ACCORD" FACTOR AND 2027 SPECULATION

The mention of Accord Party properties in the Governor's statement highlights the shifting political landscape in Osun. As the state moves toward the 2026/2027 electoral cycle, the friction between the ruling administration and the APC has intensified, with Adeleke accusing the opposition of attempting to trigger a state of anarchy to justify federal intervention.

The Governor’s directive serves as a final warning to the Police Command, emphasizing that the protection of the State Secretariat and other strategic government buildings is now a matter of "urgent public importance."

REACTION FROM THE OPPOSITION

While the APC has yet to issue a formal rebuttal to this specific directive, the party has previously accused the Adeleke administration of using state power to harass its members. However, the Governor maintains that the named individuals have "documented" histories of violence that the police can no longer ignore.
