President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the immediate and permanent reinforcement of security at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State, following a recent bandit attack on the institution's perimeter.
The President said the incident has further strengthened the Federal Government's determination to safeguard critical national institutions, support security personnel, and prevent future security breaches.
Tinubu's directive was conveyed on Friday by Vice President Kashim Shettima while addressing participants of the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 48, 2026, at NIPSS in Kuru.
Speaking on behalf of the President, Shettima expressed the condolences of the Federal Government to the families of two soldiers and a police officer who lost their lives during the attack.
"The President extends his heartfelt condolences to the families of the security personnel who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their service and commitment to the nation will not be forgotten," the Vice President said.
According to him, President Tinubu has ordered the activation of emergency security measures without delay and directed the Director-General of NIPSS to collaborate closely with the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Department of State Services (DSS) to strengthen security around the institution.
The Vice President disclosed that the security agencies have been tasked with fortifying the institute's perimeter and enhancing measures aimed at preventing future attacks.
He further revealed that a comprehensive security action plan covering surveillance systems, deployment of personnel, access control mechanisms, and emergency response infrastructure must be submitted to the Office of the Vice President within 72 hours.
"The President has directed that a detailed implementation plan and timeline for the permanent reinforcement of security at the institute be developed and forwarded within the stipulated period," Shettima stated.
The latest directive underscores the Federal Government's commitment to addressing security concerns in Plateau State and other parts of the country affected by banditry, insurgency, and other forms of violent crime.
NIPSS, Nigeria's foremost policy and strategic research institution, plays a critical role in leadership development and policy formulation, making its security a matter of national importance.
