Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recovered a cache of weapons, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and other combat equipment from suspected Lakurawa terrorists following a fierce gun battle in Kebbi State.
The operation, which took place around the Dogon Daji area of Dandi Local Government Area on June 14, saw Nigerian troops engage the terrorists in a sustained offensive, forcing the insurgents to abandon their positions and flee.
According to the Nigerian Army, the troops launched an aggressive pursuit of the fleeing terrorists, leading to the recovery of several high-calibre weapons and explosive materials believed to have been abandoned during the encounter. Recovered items included rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launch tubes, RPG warheads, multiple improvised explosive devices, two motorcycles, battery chargers, and other logistics equipment.
The spokesperson for the 8 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist and criminal networks operating across Nigeria's North-West region.
Osoba disclosed that no casualties were recorded among the troops during the operation, describing the success as a reflection of the military's commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist groups threatening peace and security in the region.
"The Nigerian Army remains resolute in sustaining offensive pressure on these criminal elements, denying them freedom of action and disrupting their activities to ensure the safety of law-abiding citizens," the Army spokesman stated.
Security analysts say the latest operation underscores ongoing military efforts to weaken the operational capabilities of the Lakurawa group and other armed elements operating along border communities in Kebbi and neighbouring states.
The military has continued to intensify clearance operations across the North-West as part of broader efforts to restore security and protect vulnerable communities from terrorist attacks and criminal activities.
