The leadership of the National Youths Assembly of Nigeria (NYAN), Osun State Chapter, under the distinguished leadership of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Amb. Ojewale Segun David, paid a strategic courtesy and partnership visit to the leadership of the Osun State Amotekun Corps as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen grassroots security, youth engagement, and community development across Osun State.
The visit provided a valuable platform for constructive engagement between both institutions, focusing on the critical role of youths in promoting peace, security consciousness, and community vigilance. During the meeting, NYAN presented its proposal on the NYAN–Amotekun Youth Security Partnership Initiative, a framework designed to foster collaboration between young people and security agencies in addressing emerging security challenges within communities.
The proposed partnership seeks to achieve the following objectives:
- Strengthening collaboration between youths and security agencies.
- Promoting peace, discipline, and civic responsibility among young people.
- Supporting efforts against crime, cultism, drug abuse, and other social vices.
- Encouraging intelligence sharing and community-based security initiatives.
- Building trust and mutual understanding between security personnel and youths.
The discussions further highlighted several key areas of collaboration, including:
- Joint security awareness campaigns in schools and communities.
- Youth sensitization programmes on crime prevention and public safety.
- Community peace-building and conflict resolution initiatives.
- Leadership and security consciousness capacity-building workshops.
- Establishment of a Youth Security Volunteer Network to support lawful community safety efforts.
- Regular stakeholder engagements between NYAN and the Osun State Amotekun Corps.
The leadership of NYAN commends the Commandant and management team of the Osun State Amotekun Corps for their unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property throughout Osun State. The Corps has continued to demonstrate professionalism, courage, and dedication in the discharge of its responsibilities, thereby contributing significantly to the maintenance of peace and security across the state.
Special appreciation goes to the Public Relations Officer of the Osun State Amotekun Corps and his team for facilitating a highly productive engagement. Their professionalism, openness, warm reception, and hospitality created an atmosphere that encouraged meaningful dialogue and the exchange of innovative ideas aimed at strengthening security architecture at the grassroots level.
The insightful discussions held during the visit further reinforced the shared conviction that security is a collective responsibility requiring active participation from all stakeholders, particularly the youth population, who constitute a significant percentage of the state's demographic strength.
The National Youths Assembly of Nigeria (NYAN), Osun State Chapter, remains committed to partnering with security agencies, government institutions, traditional authorities, civil society organizations, and community leaders in promoting peace, security, and sustainable development across Osun State.
