OSOGBO, OSUN STATE — The Osun State Government has announced a landmark healthcare initiative targeting the state’s traditional institutions. Following an executive directive from Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, the Osun Health Insurance Agency (OHIS) has finalized plans to enroll all traditional rulers across the state and their spouses into the State Health Insurance Scheme.
The policy is designed to provide royal families with comprehensive, qualitative, accessible, and affordable healthcare delivery, ensuring their medical welfare is secured.
Commencing Palace-to-Palace Enrollment
Speaking on the development on Monday, May 18, 2026, the Executive Secretary of OHIS, Dr. Rasaq Akindele, revealed that the agency has already deployed the necessary machinery to guarantee a seamless registration process.
To ensure maximum convenience for the royal fathers, OHIS officials will be conducting direct palace visitations across the state. The enrollment exercise is scheduled to kick off on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, and will run for a duration of two weeks.
Recognizing the Role of Royal Institutions
Dr. Akindele emphasized that Governor Adeleke's administration remains deeply passionate about the health and well-being of all residents, regardless of social status or background. He noted that extending free health coverage to traditional rulers is a gesture of appreciation for their invaluable contributions to maintaining peace, unity, and grass-roots development in Osun State.
"This gesture is aimed at strengthening healthcare access for our revered royal fathers and their spouses," Dr. Akindele stated. He reaffirmed that OHIS will continue to implement people-oriented health policies aimed at systematically improving the living standards of everyone in the state.
