A group of women in Elugwu-Akwu community, Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State, staged a protest against the alleged activities of commercial sex workers in the area, accusing them of negatively influencing families and disrupting the social fabric of the community.

The women, who marched through major streets carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs, alleged that the presence of the sex workers had contributed to marital conflicts and the growing involvement of young men in what they described as immoral activities.

According to the protesters, many married men and young bachelors in the community have become regular patrons of the establishments where the women allegedly operate, leading to concerns about family stability and the welfare of young people. The demonstrators called on community leaders, security agencies, and relevant authorities to intervene and address the situation.

Some of the protesters claimed that the activities of the sex workers were affecting marriages and exposing youths to social vices. They urged authorities to enforce community regulations and ensure that residential areas remain conducive for family life.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official response from community authorities or law enforcement agencies regarding the allegations raised during the protest. Similarly, representatives of the accused sex workers had not publicly commented on the claims.

The protest has generated discussions on social media, with residents expressing varying opinions on the concerns raised by the women and the broader social issues surrounding commercial sex work within communities.
